Greg’s Guitars Customer Story
In a professional recording environment, workflow efficiency and technical precision are paramount. From intricate routing to tightly timed tracking sessions, studio engineers know that even minor disorganization can slow down a session or compromise a mix. That’s why seasoned pros often rely on an unassuming but highly functional tool: hook and loop fasteners from Cord-Lox®.
Greg Henkin from Greg’s Guitar Lessons also runs a full-service recording studio. Located in Grayslake, Illinois, Greg uses Cord-Lox® hook and loop ties for studio cable management needs.
“I’m a one-man band here and when it’s time to tear down a session, my goal is to have the studio clean and ready for the next day because I’ll have students coming in. I can’t have unorganized cables around. Cord-Lox® makes a range of hook and loop fasteners I use every time.”
Studio Cable Management
Made by TFI Custom Fabrication, Cord-Lox® reusable hook and loop ties, straps and fasteners provide cable management solutions trusted by audio and visual professionals.
Due to their quality, unique features and reusability, the Cord-Lox® product line has become especially popular for recording studio cable management.
The Rivet Strap, Closed Loop, Open Loop, Y Series Strap, Wire Wrap and Coil’n’Carry Strap all deliver high-quality cable control available in a variety of colors and sizes.
TFI Custom Fabrication even offers custom printing options for your cable ties, tapes, and fasteners with your company name, logo, or contact information.
Professional studios often manage hundreds of cables across various signal types—analog audio, digital I/O, power, control voltage, and networking. Cord-Lox® reusable hook and loop ties are a preferred method for a few different reasons:
- Non-destructive bundling: Unlike zip ties, hook and loop straps don’t pinch or damage shielding, which is crucial for maintaining cable integrity—especially on balanced analog runs or fragile fiber connections.
- Session adaptability: During rewires, rerouting, or live session changes, cable bundles can be modified in seconds.
- Signal path labeling: Colored or custom printed hook and loop ties allow engineers to visually differentiate between cable types, client setups, or routing schemes.
- Identification: Having TFI print your studio name on Cord-Lox(R) helps ensure your cables don’t get mixed up with the artists and band’s gear.
Greg uses Cord-Lox® for exactly those purposes and more. “For my forty space rack of outboard gear, the weight of snake cables can be a concern. I use the Cord-Lox® Coil ‘N’ Carry and pin hook the rivet to the rack. That way the weight of the snake is on the strap, not pulling down on the gear. It also gets everything away from the wheels so I can move the rack back and forth for easy access.”
When it comes to recording studio cable management, cables need to be both accessible and sometimes securely mounted.
The Cord-Lox® Coil ‘N’ Carry offers an industrial strength solution for both mounting cables to a rack or wall, but can be repositioned or removed without damaging surfaces.
Greg explains, “I bundle excess length of cables that are leading to and from my pre-amp rack using the Coil-N-Carry. Then when I need to make changes to the rack, I can more easily remove the cables because they are all bundled together with this fastener.”
Cable Identification: Saving time & Inventory control.
Cord-Lox® hook and loop fasteners come in various colors. So at the very least, studios can color-code certain types of cables or the length of the cables.
This makes setup so much faster. Several of the fasteners can also be marked on or for the ultimate in identification, most Cord-Lox® can be custom printed with your studio’s name or logo.
Engineers can use Cord-Lox® to assign meaning to different gear or signal types. When storing coiled cables, engineers often use labeled hook-and-loop ties so that each cable indicates its identity before it is unraveled. In a space where clarity, speed, and precision are vital, they provide a simple, reusable system for keeping gear identifiable as yours.
As Greg points out, “In the studio or out doing live shows, anything you can do to identify cables is key. That’s why color coding or even having a consistent label like Cord-Lox® on every cable makes it easier. I know where every cable is going, and I know it’s mine when it comes down to tear down.”
The Bottom Line
Cord-Lox® is far more than just hook-and-loop cable ties—they’re a scalable, reusable, and professional-grade utility tool that supports professional recording studios. For engineers who demand precision, flexibility, and fast recall in their workflow, these fasteners enable efficient organization, streamlined setup, and a cleaner studio aesthetic.
“All the coolest gear is useless without cables,” Greg adds. “There are at least a thousand cables in my studio, and they all have to be managed. Cord-Lox® has everything I need to manage it all.”
